Curtain-raisers:
The Funfare DPA from Pagsanjan, Laguna, reports that the taping for Tabing-Ilog has been packed up twice in a row because Desiree del Valle was a no-show (no advance notice, ni ha, ni ho?). A disgruntled member of the cast jokingly suggested that the character of Desiree either be "deported" to the US or, why not, be "killed" by pushing her into the ilog (river).
The new boldie to be launched soon by Viva films is Andrea del Rosario in Lupe, comeback directorial job of long-dormant Elwood Perez, with Leandro Muñoz and Jordan Herrera as leading men.
Could it be true that Powerboy Greg Martin will soon sign a contract as recording artist of Universal Records? Greg had some training along that line in the US.
Funfare had a face-to-face encounter with Katherine Anne Manalo, 2002 Bb. Pilipinas World, Monday night at an appreciation dinner hosted by her aunt Nini Ramos-Licaros (herself a Bb. Pilipinas-International in 1968). Katherine did the country proud at the recent Miss World Pageant (won by Miss Turkey) in London where she placed among the Top 10.
Was Katherine (and the 90-plus other contestants) scared by the rioting that erupted in Nigeria where the contest was originally scheduled to be held?
"Not at all," said Katherine, "because the rioting was in another town."
Katherines roommate both in Nigeria and in London was Miss Hong Kong who failed to make it to the semi-finals (20, only four of them Asians, with the other three being Miss China Miss India and Miss Vietnam). Katherine said that her own favorite to win the title would change everytime (she didnt like Miss Peru who finished third, though, not so much anyway).
"In the end," said Katherine, "I thought Miss Turkey would win and she did."
While her contract (good for one year) with the Bb. Pilipinas Charities, Inc. is good, Katherine cant accept any movie or TV offers (but guestings are okay). For sure, Katherine will make a good actress what with her looks and her "latent" acting talent (Aunt Nini is, after all, showbiz na showbiz, having been the producer of the sitcom Eh, Kasi Babae).
If and when, according to Katherine, shed rather be behind and not before the cameras.
"I want to produce documentaries, and maybe also act as the host."
Here now is the third (and final) publication of the 40 questions in the Funfare-EMI Music Philippines tie-up promo for Forty Licks, the Rolling Stones latest album. In this Phase 1 of the contest, all you have to do is answer 40 trivia questions about the Roling Stones and send your answers to: EMI Philippines, Inc., 25th Floor, Atlanta Center, Annapolis St., Greenhills San Juan, Metro Manila. Or e-mail to: [email protected], with your name and address. Forty winners will be chosen (each one will receive a Forty Licks CD and a Forty Licks poster), to be announced early next year.
Phase 2 of the contest, also consisting of 40 (new) questions, will start early next year and the grand-prize winner will get a chance to watch the Rolling Stones concert slated tentatively in March, 2003, at a yet undisclosed venue in Asia (could it be Beijing?).
