Let's go jigging at CLUBSKA!
October 18, 2002 | 12:00am
The Dance Craze never stops! as CLUBSKA Manila celebrates 4 years of meaningful existence with a double serving of the full roster of Clubska bands. Part I is an October 18,performance at Heckle and Jeckle located at Villa bldg, Jupiter St. cor. Makati Ave. featuring PUT3SKA, Shuffle Union, Coffee Break Island and Jeepney Joyride.Part II November 2, shifts the celebration to Mayrics, Espana featuring the full roster of Clubska bands. Hosting the night will be DJ Shane Cosgrove, who will also spin ska, soul, rocksteady, and reggae records. Both events start at 9PM.
Clubska Manila is home to the Philippines' finest ska bands. It started out as an idea contemplated upon by the ska masters of the country a.k.a. Put3Ska, with the help of long time supporters,to further develop the already promising ska scene in the country. And with a little more push, it eventually turned to reality on a hot October 1998 night. The reception was exceptional. Clubska welcomed new ska, rocksteady and reggae acts and unhesitantly trained them to develop their sound, and true to its objective Clubska has proved itself worthy to be called, as Arnold Morales of Put3Ska puts it, "Roots School".
Clubska became a place where local listeners of this Jamaican import can listen to rare records of their favorite ska, soul, reggae and rocksteady tunes. It also became an avenue in which local mods, skinheads, skanormals and just about everyone who enjoy listening to ska can exchange stories, opinions, records and things in common. And after 4 years of imparting invaluable knowledge and experience to the bands which have played in the multitude of its monthly editions, Clubska still continues to nurture these bands with
the same, if not more, amount of keenness as it had when it started out.
This year's celebration is sponsored by Philstar.com, King Crab Restaurant, Urge Magazine and Ang Tunay na Pansit Malabon. Special thanks go to PULP and Planet X. Visit Clubska Manila's website at www.clubska.8m.com and www.yahoogroups.com/group/clubska.
