Ynez airs her side

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
A few issues ago, Mon Confiado revealed in a STAR interview with Assistant Entertainment Editor Maridol Rañoa-Bismark the reasons why he and Ynez Veneracion broke up after going steady – yes, living-in – for four tumultuous years, punctuated by frequent fights that often drove Ynez to suicide attempts (thank God she hasn’t been successful – so far!).

During the presscon for World Arts Cinema’s Bedtime Stories where she plays a lesbian (with an elaborate love scene with Maricar de Mesa who’s going very bold in the trilogy directed by Maryo J. de los Reyes), Ynez did confirm some of Mon’s accusations, one of them their being incompatible.

"Even the choice of eating place became a source of violent quarrel between us," said Ynez. "Gusto niya Jollibee, it’s true; ako naman, gusto McDo. He’s fond of Chinese food, ako naman Japanese food. Sometimes, he was in the mood for sex and I wasn’t, so he would often go ‘solo flight’. Hindi talaga kami magkasundo."

Ynez went steady with Niño Muhlach (now happily married to somebody else) and it was smooth sailing. Her romance with Mon, however, was something else. "Matindi," said Ynez. "Very intense." She admitted in the next breath that her jealousy and possessiveness were the culprits of their constant misunderstanding.

"When I see Mon making love to another woman in a movie," said Ynez, "I got hurt. I’m an actress and I should understand but I got hurt just the same."

It’s because, according to Ynez, she’s too sensitive.

"I absorb pain. I’ve been looking for love. I feel that nobody really loves me. I have had an unhappy childhood, that’s why. After that ABS-CBN incident (where she was trapped in a hotel with an alleged ‘customer’), ang feeling ko wala akong tunay na kaibigan."

But she conceded that Mon, older than Ynez by more than 10 years, has had a good influence on her.

"He has taught me how to save. Because of him, I was able to buy a car. We were able to save enough to buy a condo together. He has been trying to boost my morale, especially when I won a Best Supporting Actress award (for Paraiso ni Efren, also directed by Maryo J.) in the Young Critics Circle and an Urian nomination for the same movie. My song, Nakaw na Pagibig, was also nominated, along with that of True Faith, in the Awit Awards."

Ynez denied, though, that she was unfaithful, despite rumors linking her to Caloocan City Mayor Rey Malonzo (sufficiently denied), Richard Reynoso, Richard Quan, Jeffrey Quizon, Mikey Arroyo and Jeric Raval.

During all their four years together, Ynez and Mon did talk about marriage; but they never tried to have a baby.

"If I get pregnant," said Ynez, "malaking income ang mawawala sa akin."

Her love scenes with Maricar in Bedtime Stories are her boldest so far.

"Maricar and I had a lips-to-lips kissing scene. It was scary – at first. Direk Maryo kept telling us, ‘Kiss some more, kiss more passionately.’ And then he asked me to mash Maricar’s breasts, saying, ‘Sige, lamasin mo pa!’ It got to a point when I was starting to enjoy it, kaya natakot ako." She added in jest, "E kung matuluyan kami ni Maricar!"

Next month, Ynez will again perform in Japan (the four days will be extended to one month) so she can save enough to buy her own house.
