(Big) boys do cry, don’t they?

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
Curtain-raisers:

• Amy Perez is looking more and more like her hairdresser and make-up artist Pin Antonio (of Salon de Manila), or haven’t you noticed? In fact, stars who get that "Pin Antonio touch" are starting to walk around like her "clones."

• I tune in to IBC 13’s Lunch Date Muna at 11 a.m. almost daily to catch the portion hosted by Cristy Fermin and Jobert Sucaldito. I switch channels the moment the "senior" members of the Lunch Date entourage come on. Among the hosts, I find Lara Fabregas, Glydel Mercado and, yes, Yam Ledesma "good enough."

• On radio, I tune in to DZMM for Joey Galvez and Winnie Cordero mornings on the way to work because I find them simply entertaining. On the way home at night, weekdays I tune in to "Dr. Love" (also on DZMM) and on Saturdays to Tiya Dely’s DZRH show (she did an inspiring interview with the 91-year-old medical icon Dr. Fe del Mundo last Saturday) and back to DZMM at 9 to 10 to Billy Balbastro and then from 10 to 11 for Alfie Lorenzo. My daily staple early evenings 6:30 to 8 is DZXL’s Showbiz Power with Kuya Mar (d’Guzman Cruz).

Boys don’t cry, do they?

Oh, yes, they do – local (big) boys, that is, and on national television at that! (What a shame?)

Parañaque Mayor Joey Marquez has been shedding tears in public, induced by the continuing drama surrounding his controversial lovelife. Mayor Joey cried when he aired his side on his break-up with Alma Moreno (who has emerged as the underdog and therefore the bida/"victim" in the eyes of the public) and he cried a bucket more as he professed "eternal" love for his new girlfriend, Kris Aquino, who herself has metamorphosed into a devil-may-care woman of the world, much to the shock and chagrin not only of her family (especially her mom, former President Cory Aquino) but also of, I’m sure, millions of Filipinos both here and abroad who recoil at Kris’ brazenness and utter disregard for the Aquino name and legacy.

Remember only a few years ago when Kris ran crying to her Mom after Gabby Concepcion stole a kiss (on the cheek) from her during the shooting of their love scene in Regal Films’ Pangako ng Puso, one of her early films? How Kris has changed! Now, she doesn’t just kiss but she also tells the public about it – with a wide, wide smile. The lips-to-lips kiss happened during Douglas Quijano’s birthday bash two Saturdays ago at the Imperial Palace Suites, hosted by Mother Lily, and those who witnessed the smack-ful "event" were left momentarily speechless.

Also in total disregard for the feelings of especially his children (never mind his estranged wife Alma whom, I suspect, he wants to "humilitate" and/or "embarrass" in public), Mayor Joey struts around like a 16-year-old boy in love for the very first time, forgetting that, first and foremost, he’s a public official before he’s an incurable lover boy.

Stand by for more tears from Mayor Joey, in tune with the monsoon now upon us.

Now, if Metro Manila is flooded not just with water from the sky, blame it not only on Mayor Joey but other big boys who are crying, including character-actor-turned-bold-star Mike Magat who’s doing his own share of lachrymal exercise on national television. It’s also, as in the case of Kris and Joey, because of "misplaced/displaced(?)" love.

You see, the very much married Mike confessed having gotten involved with Lara Moreno, separated from her businessman-husband, and their supposedly clandestine romance broke into movie headlines when another starlet, one Pyar Mirasol, stepped into the picture. Funfare doesn’t know the background (not that Funfare cares) of this particular case but suffice it to say that Mike is now shedding copious tears on national television, saying he’s repentant and making amends to his real/legal wife who, he confessed, has kicked him out of the house.

That’s the weather forecast these days, folks – intermittent rains courtesy of Mayor Joey, Mike Magat and… is anybody else out there joining the tear-drenched bunch?

Boys do cry, don’t they?
Ryan will bounce back
Is there life after Talk TV?

As far as Ryan Agoncillo is concerned, there is.

After Talk TV (which he co-hosted with Tintin Bersola and Julius Babao) bowed out, despite its respectable ratings against its competitor, Ryan continues to explore new grounds.

He was just sent by Universal Records to Los Angeles as the lone Filipino to interview pop artist Jennifer Love Hewitt, and upon his return, he will start hosting a new talk show with his idol and fellow La Sallite, Edu Manzano, on ABS-CBN.

While he still maintains his anchoring Review Night with Pia Guanio on Cinema 1 and his own feature show, Explorer on Studio 23, Ryan will be seen hosting important events in the next weeks, particularly the Circle of 10 Search (last night) where he was the first Achievement Awardee two years ago, the Bigkis Youth Festival, a preparatory activity for the coming of the Pope at the Folk Arts Theater on Aug. 17, and the Pilak Advertising Summit Awards on Aug. 30. On top of all these, Ryan has also committed to hosting the MYX launch concert at the Araneta Coliseum anytime soon.
