Kris has a ‘fixation’ with mayors

Curtain-raisers:

* Philip Cu-Unjieng, who co-owns Dish with, among others, EJ Litton, called to say that Jennifer Cuneta jammed with Martin Nievera and Ariel Rivera not at Onstage as wrongly mentioned in Funfare yesterday but at Dish. It happened last Sunday when Noel Cabangon was the featured performer. Jennifer, Martin and Ariel jammed for more than one hour, according to Philip.

* Congratulations to Maricel Laxa-Pangilinan on her book Mommy Talk (a compilation of her columns in this paper’s Life Section) which will be launched on May 10, 2 to 5 p.m., at the Magellan Room of the Discovery Suites in Ortigas Center.

* No truth to the wild rumor that former child actor Jaypee de Guzman has undergone a sex-change operation or he performed in drag in Japan. Jaypee was a guest on Inday Badiday’s DZMM show Careful, Careful yesterday afternoon and he only laughed off the rumor. "In fact," he said, "I’ve never been to Japan." Jaypee is now managed by Michael Laygo’s company, Applause.

I have to tell you this: Kris Aquino texted me yesterday to clarify the blind item about a Mr. Big Time visiting a Miss Big Time "under cover of darkness," accompanied by a dozen bodyguards who nearly engaged in a shootout with the police to whom somebody reported that armed men were seen in a parked van outside a Quezon City subdivision.

Ever truthful and ever true, Kris said that it was the Barangay Patrol (of Quezon City) and not the QC police who checked on the men in the van who turned out to be – blush, blush, blush! – members of the Parañaque City police escorting their Mayor, Joey Marquez, who was paying Kris a, ehem, friendly visit. There were only three bodyguards, Kris added, "and not a dozen bodyguards."

Sorry, Kris, if I have to identify you and Mayor Joey because Funfare can’t make the necessary correction without doing so. Anyway, as you’ve been saying, there’s nothing wrong with you being visited by Mayor Joey because, after all, you two have become "friends" after you interviewed him on The Buzz about the issue with him and estanged wife Alma Moreno.

What I know is that Kris has this fixation with Metro Manila Mayors. I don’t believe that she and Mayor Joey are already an "item" because Kris is eager and excited to go out to dinner with another Metro Manila Mayor who’s very eligible and very charming but who would be unidentified as far as this corner is concerned. Kris has told her mother, former President Cory Aquino, about him and Tita Cory laughed and laughed. Could you imagine that charming and eligible Mayor calling Tita Cory "Mommy"!

"One of these days," dared Kris, "I’m going out on a date with ________ (name deleted), just wait and see!"

At the birthday bash of celebrity couturier Paul Cabral last Sunday at his place on Scout Gandia, Quezon City, just next door to the unit of Diether Ocampo, Kris was teased no end by Paul’s other well-wishers who included Bong Revilla, Ruby Rodriguez, Christian Vasquez and his girlfriend Liz Alora (model and one-time Bb. Pilipinas contestant), model Paolo Relucio, Ogie Diaz, Wendell Ramos (Paul’s bosom buddy), Antonio Aquitaña, Lorna Tolentino, Andrea Bautista, Ricky Davao and Kris’ best friend Pops Fernandez.

Somebody observed that Kris seemed to have a fixation with Metro Manila Mayors and somebody else "warned" Kris that if ever, she should end her "date list" with, maybe, Caloocan City Mayor Rey Malonzo or Navotas Mayor Toby Tiangco, both still dashing (but, sorry Kris, very much married).

"Please spare Mayor (Jojo) Binay (Makati)," somebody jokingly told Kris.

At the same party, Lorna informed Funfare that she had just signed a contract with ABS-CBN for a new soap that will start taping next week and will start telecast first week of June. Lorna will play a mother looking for a long-missing son (reminiscent of her role in Star Cinema’s May Nagmamahal Sa’yo?).

Diether was careful about being near Bong who insisted that Diether and his younger sister Andrea (remember her as a child performer in Dang/Dong? She’s now a newscaster on RPN 9) are "only friends." O, sige na nga!

Pops only broke into a bedimpled blush when asked about her love life ("Zero," she said). Reserved and withdrawn, Pops should learn from Dear Kris a thing or two about "teasing" men and putting them in the palm of her hand. The two are poles apart when it comes to falling in – and out – of love. Pops is demure where Kris is daring. Opposites attract. No wonder they’re good friends.

According to Kris, "I can fall only for a man 35 years old and above. Ayoko ng bata." (Kris is 32.)

There were many more "secrets" shared at Paul’s party but so sorry, they have to remain... secret.
