A summer of PULP
April 8, 2002 | 12:00am
Just as the stifling heat signals the onslaught of summer, everyones thoughts turn to the beach or the fairer weather of Baguio or Tagaytay. But hey, summer is largely the best part of the year.
Not only is school out, it is also the only time when the customary look is to show as much skin as possible. If thats not enough excitement for you, check out PULPs latest issue, loaded with the hottest music features and scorching record reviews.
Featured on the cover are P.O.D., the American rock band that recently paid Manila a visit and rocked Le Pavillion with a one-night promo concert. PULP music editor Kristine Fonacier hangs out with the modern-day rock evangelists for an in-depth look at what makes rock music and religious values compatible in this day and age.
This issue also features the best of Pinoy hip hop and on alternate cover is D-Coy, an upcoming hip hop artist who released his debut solo album last year, along with MTV Asia Awards winner Kyla.
Dubbed as PULP Magazines Four Corners of Pinoy Hip Hop in reference to all artists representing the four elements of hip hop the main feature lists over 30 artists currently working the scene.
Staffwriter Joey Dizon also talked to Dave Williams, vocalist of new metal band Drowning Pool, on the finer points of the rock and roll lifestyle.
Also featured in the issue is another "Christian band" Creed, who discusses how they were formed and how they have coped up with the pressures of Top 40 success. Regular columns like Grassroots by Igan DBayan, I Wanna Be A Rockstar by Joey Dizon, Metro Kat by Kathy Chua Chiaco, Inside Music by Ramon Zialcita, the Reviews, PULP Skin and PULP Style are back with more interesting bits of information and arresting images only found in PULP.
But perhaps the biggest summer blowout ever is the PULP Summer Slam II. Get ready to rock with 30 of the best bands like Slapshock, Cheese, Greyhoundz, Sandwich, Eraserheads, Chicosci, Wolfgang, Bad Burn, Skychurch, Razorback, Parokya Ni Edgar and a lot more, and eight hours of live female mud wrestling! To add to the heat.
PULP will also launch a new supplement called PULP FLAVOR, the first and last word on Hip Hop and R&B in the Philippines.
The countrys top hip hop performers celebrate PULP FLAVORs launch at Pier One in Libis, including 7 Shots Of Wisdom, Trilogy, D-Coy, Madd Poets, BB Clan, Brand New Funk, K.I.R. plus other special guests.
