Don’t you wish they’d reconcile on Valentine’s?

STAR BYTES - Butch Francisco -
Today – being the day of hearts – is probably the best day for people at odds with each other and those who have gone separate ways to kiss and make up. Below are some of the people we wish would reconcile this Valentine’s Day.

Joey Marquez and Alma Moreno
– Undoubtedly, they are the hottest personalities of the week. What’s happening to them is really sad – especially now that they’re starting to exchange hurting words (but really more from Alma’s end). According to Mayor Joey Marquez, he’s still willing to reconcile with Alma. However, it’s too early to tell what’s going to happen next because there’s a new development every day.

Corazon Aquino and Imelda Marcos
– These two widows most likely would never be friends. At least, not in this lifetime. And not until the Marcoses have admitted their faults – to the Aquinos and to the rest of the Filipino people.

Joseph Estrada and Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo
– Despite the fact that President Arroyo has already visited Erap in detention, the two still trade barbs. The charismatic idol of the masses vs. the IQ Girl.

Jinggoy Estrada and Bong Revilla
– I bet it won’t take long before they reconcile. They may not become the best of friends again, but they should be able to settle their differences sometime soon. After all, during the media blitz for his latest movie, Jinggoy clearly said that he has already forgiven… but not forgotten.

Armida Siguion- Reyna and Manoling Morato
– I’m no longer sure about the score between the two of them now. Are they already friends or are they still enemies? (There’s no debate regarding censorship today, so it’s difficult to tell.) Manoling and Armida may be like Heckle and Jeckle, but what they fight over concerns principles – and to me, that is indeed admirable.

Tessie Aquino Oreta and Jose Isidro Camacho
– Most movie people I know aren’t really great fans of Camacho. After all, it was under his leadership as Finance Secretary that most entertainers suffered a severe cut in pay as a result of the 20 percent withholding tax currently being removed from the talent fees of showbiz people. Of course, in fairness to him, this ruling was proposed as early as 1996 and it was only during his time that it was implemented. But even if I’m not very fond of him (especially now that my pocketbook is really hurting), I still think that Sen. Tessie Oreta’s move to block the confirmation of his appointment smacks so much of vendetta.

Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez
– Although their fans are hoping they would still get back together, people who know the couple are very much aware that this isn’t possible at the moment. In the future? Who knows? Nothing is impossible in this world. The important thing is that they’re now on very friendly terms with each other.

Ian de Leon/Matet and John Rendez
– The story goes that there was a violent confrontation between John Rendez and Ian de Leon a few months ago. Matet naturally sided with brother Ian in the aftermath. Although this was an ugly family feud, I still think it’s wonderful that Matet and Ian are rallying behind one another and showing their genuine love for each other even if – as we already all know – they’re not real siblings biologically. Nora Aunor may have had shortcomings as a mother, but I have to say she brought up her children to love one another.

John Estrada and Janice de Belen
– After many years of blissful marriage and several children, the public felt sad to see this marriage come to an end. But for the sake of the children, I hope it’s not too late for them to consider getting back together.

Jomari Yllana and Aiko Melendez
– Only a few years back, they were so young and so in love. It’s a pity their marriage had to crumble so soon.

Gina Alajar and Michael de Mesa
– Considering that they’ve split and made up more than they could care to count, maybe it’s not impossible for them to reconcile once more in spite of Gina’s pronouncements last year that their separation this time is final.

Lolit Solis and Gabby Concepcion
– Theirs is one of the most bitter parting of ways in the history of local show business. Two years ago, they almost reconciled when Lolit went to the US to interview Gabby. As far as I remember, Gabby didn’t show up at the appointed date and time. Now, I don’t think a reconciliation between them is possible in the very near future. But then again, this is show business. You don’t know what’s going to happen next.
