•‘Unmarried’ singer is pregnant!

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo -
Briefly noted: A controversial young singer is said to be having morning sickness, a sure sign that she’s expecting another (her second) child; the first was by her ex-husband who has quit (temporarily?) showbiz. Suspected to be the father of the forthcoming baby is a tall "imported" talent who is single and highly eligible (the singer is "un-married," her marriage having been annulled).

Like the first time, I think that the singer’s initial reaction to this report is vehement denial, until such time when, as the song (Smoke Gets in Your Eyes) goes, something here inside cannot be denied.

There’s nothing wrong in having a baby (well, there might be because it’s, well, "conceived in liberty" – out of wedlock, that is) because she’s legally free again. But will the would-be father be man enough to admit he’s "it" and give his name to the child?

While Ruffa Gutierrez is here for an extended vacation, check out the diamond Cartier ring she’s wearing. Yes, it’s a birthday gift (last June 24 when she turned 26) to her by her Turkish boyfriend Yilmaz Bektas who followed Ruffa to Manila last July 30 but has left last night one week ahead of Ruffa who’s following him to Istanbul next week.

"I have to extend my vacation so I could wait for him," Ruffa told Funfare during a brief phone chat yesterday. "Is it an engagement ring? No, it’s not – yet."

In case you haven’t heard, Yilmaz proposed to Ruffa via the Internet recently after they ended another of their "cooling off" periods – yes, for the whole world to read (log in to www.middleeastin.com/ruffa and find out for yourself). Part of the marriage proposal read: "I want you to be the mother of my children. Will you marry me?"

Asked if she had said "yes" to Yilmaz, Ruffa only gave a vague "what do you think?" while hinting that, who knows, they might, just might, get married in Year 2002.

On Sept. 15, Ruffa’s parents, Eddie and Annabelle (Rama), are spending a two-week holiday in Istanbul courtesy of Yilmaz who manages several big businesses there. (While here, he negotiated with local businessmen for possible "tie-ups"). Will they discuss the "forthcoming wedding?" Again, Ruffa gave a what-do-you-think answer.

Early next year, Yilmaz and Ruffa will host an engagement party aboard the yacht Savarona which is owned by the Turkish Government, complete with 20 rooms and with 405 seats, manned by a staff of 50. The 135-meter long Savarona will cruise around the Coast of Sardenia in Italy while Ruffa and Yilmaz entertain their guests (you and me not included).

All roads seem to be leading these days to Dish (third level of Power Plant Mall, Rockwell Center, near the cinemas), tagged as "The Ultimate Dining Experience, Inc.," which opened last July 19. The celebrities shown on this page are among those who graced the opening and a lot of other celebrities have been showing up at the place night after night.

Open from 10 a.m. to 2 a.m. Monday to Thursday, 10 a.m. to 4 a.m Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 12 midnight on Sunday, Dish has seven restaurants for you to choose from. It’s turo-turo style but the only difference is that you take your seat first and the smiling waiters and waitresses will bring the food to your table. On the menu are more than 250 goodies, from Filipino cuisine to Japanese to Vietnamese, etc.

The prices are incredibly reasonable. As "bonus," there are "live" entertainers every night, from 9:30 to 1 a.m., with no extra charge. All you have to do is walk in, take a seat, enjoy your food and float with the music.

On the (Monday) night we were there, Dish was filled with celebrities, including First Daughter Luli Macapagal-Arroyo who was in a group with Housing Boss Mike Defensor, Bukidnon Rep. Juan Miguel Zubiri and Berna Romulo (daughter of Executive Secretary Bert Romulo); Dolphy and Zsa Zsa Padilla with their daughters (they left after eating); and others who, according to Philip Cu-Unjieng (one of Dish owners), arrived after we left.

The entertainer that night was Mulatto who very graciously accommodated all the requested songs, much to the delight of the jampacked crowd which gamely sang along with the band. Great music. Take a bow, Mulatto (one of whose members – a guitarist – is the father of Jaclyn Jose’s recently-born love child).

Stars and singers who go to Dish sometimes oblige by jamming with the featured entertainers. Had she stayed, said Philip, "Zsa Zsa could have sung a song or two," but she begged off because she wasn’t prepared.

Besides Mulatto on Monday nights, other featured entertainers are Spirit of 67 on Tuesdays; Silk on Wednesdays; Side A (Aug. 23 and 30) and Elements (Aug. 9 and 16) on Thursdays; Dyevest, L.O.C. (Aug. 17 and 24) and Minstrels (Aug. 10 and 31) on Fridays; and Time and a Half and Rage on Saturdays. In-house DJ music is provided by After Band.

Try Dish which offers food and music – and much, much more!
