Wowie: What’s the real score?

- by Mario E. Bautista -
Lately, Wowie de Guzman has been getting nothing but negative publicity. Someone wrote he is unprofessional and is always late on the set of their Sunday show, S.O.P., on GMA-7.

At the set of his new movie, Luv Text for Maverick Films, he allegedly does not cooperate because he wants to reconcile with Judy Ann Santos but Juday is now more partial to Piolo Pascual.

It is said that he is also a problem while shooting the film because he is hooked on the illegal drug, Ecstasy, which is also the reason why he is losing a lot of weight. It is also bruited about that he is going crazy over a sexy GRO who works in a girlie bar along Timog Avenue.

Wowie just shrugs his shoulders when confronted about these accusations.

"As long as alam ko ang totoo, my conscience is clear," he tells us at the presscon of Luv Text. "About my being late at S.O.P., totoong laging late ako when I report sa set, kasi may taping for the youth-oriented show, Click, another show on GMA-7, is on Saturday nights and, usually, it ends at the wee hours of the morning, so I wake up late on Sundays."

What about his being unprofessional on the set of Luv Text?

"Juday and I have remained good friends even after we broke up, so there’s no reason for me to be unprofessional on the set of our reunion movie. Ayoko namang masabing we reconciled just to help in the movie’s promotion. I don’t get jealous either when they say sila na talaga ni Piolo. Okey lang sa akin ’yon. But all I can say is that Piolo should take good care of Juday at huwag niya itong lolokohin because I’m still concerned about her welfare. About my supposed addiction to Ecstasy, it’s simply not true. I admit that when I was a member of the UMD (Universal Motion Dancers), I tried it for kicks with some other members of our group, but I never became addicted to it. It’s true I lost weight, pero dahil ’yon sa training ko since last November for superbikes motorcycle racing at the Batangas Racing Circuit. A friend of mine brought me there and when the sponsors saw me, they encouraged me to join. I tried it at nagustuhan ko naman, so I am now training diligently for their competition. About that GRO na kinalolokohan ko raw, I wonder who could she be? And why would I want to reconcile with Juday kung totoong may GRO girlfriend na ako?"

Does he now regret leaving the stable of his former manager, Dolor Guevarra?

"No. Pinag-isipan ko munang mabuti iyon before I made my final decision. I acknowledge naman that Tita Dolor was a big help to me. Pero sa ngayon, I think I’m doing well on my own naman. Aside from Luv Text, I also did two movies with FLT Films, Tabi-Tabi Po and Carta Alas. Hindi naman ako naze-zero kahit sa out of town shows which really help me to gain more income."

He is just too happy to be working again with Juday in Luv Text.

"The story is tailor made for today’s text generation. I’m secretly in love with Juday, but she is obsessed with the campus hero, new actor Russell C. Mon, who does not pay any attention to her. I send her love messages through her cellphone. When she discovers I’m her secret admirer, she gets angry with me. It’s at this point that the film takes a fantastic time-travel turn. We are transported to the 1950s at the time her lola, played by Nida Blanca, is having her own love problems with her two suitors, Carlo Muñoz and Luis Alandy. Director Rowell Santiago has plenty of nice touches in the film to make sure it will please viewers who are fond of romantic comedies and love stories. About Juday and I, wala kaming naging personal tension on the set. We still treat each other as good friends. We have so many good and special moment na pinagsamahan kaya she will always have a special place dito sa puso ko."
