Sheryl is now 2 months pregnant! - FUNFARE By Ricardo F. Lo

FLASH: Funfare’s San Francisco-based DPA huffed and puffed the good news that – at last, at last! – Sheryl Cruz is now two months pregnant with her and husband Norman John Bustos’ first child.

The couple was married here four years ago and then settled down in San Francisco, California, where John Norman works as a sheriff and Sheryl is taking up a Liberal Arts course.

Sheryl was the first among the Cruz showbiz cousins to get married, followed by Geneva (to Paco Arespacochaga from whom she’s separated), Donna (to Yong Larrazabal) and then Sunshine (to Cesar Montano).

Stay tuned for more developments on Sheryl’s pregnancy.
Giselle’s wedding on Nov. 4
It’s set: Giselle Sanchez and long-time boyfriend Emil Buencamino are exchanging vows on Nov. 4, Saturday, 4 p.m. at the Manila Cathedral.
"We took our time," Giselle told Funfare. "We wanted to be very sure that we are emotionally, physically and financially ready before we agreed on settling down. Besides, it’s about time, di ba?"

Giselle is the daughter of Mauro Sanchez and Gilda Bernasol; and Emil, of Francisco Buencamino and Teresita Martinez

Their honeymoon? "Secret muna," said Giselle.

Only a sprinkling of showbiz is in the wedding entourage, among them Tessie Tomas, Jay Sonza and Jun Urbano as principal sponsors; Ina Raymundo as Maid of Honor; Agot Isidro as candle sponsor; and Beth Tamayo as veil sponsor.

Incidentally, Giselle wants to clarify the "non-issue" between her and Ai-Ai delas Alas mentioned in a recent Funfare item.

"I would like to reiterate what Ai-Ai has said that there is really no issue between us. What happened was a very minor misunderstanding between friends several years ago (SST days). Since it was very minor, Ai-Ai and I decided to keep it to ourselves. I am sure Ai-Ai was as surprised as I was when the incident resurfacedin movie columns recently.

"I remember the very first time I appeared in the movies, I was playing a bit player and Ai-Ai was our leader. I told my mom that I wanted to be like Ai-Ai because she was funny and talented. Up to now, I still look up to Ai-Ai as an idol and an icon which means that I can never ‘badmouth’ Ai-Ai.

"I remember writing her a card last year saying, ‘Di ba mas masrap ang feeling nang nasa taas ka at wala kang kaaway?’ I was actually moved by the fact that she actually still contemplates on those words.

"I pay to God that her detractors will lower their pride and make amends because Ai-Ai has a big heart full of unconditional love for her peers. She is a good person and does not deserve to be unhappy because she makes a lot of people happy."
Arayyy! is now a movie
While his company’s other film (Kangkong) is, as he describes it, "in limbo," Seiko boss Robbie Tan is proceeding with the release of another Seiko skin flick entitled Arayyy! which is, according to him, "inspired" by the hit song of Sony Music artist Mae Rivera but not really about it.

Using the song’s title is a clever move by Seiko, isn’t it, since the movie will have a captive audience. Seiko is noted for coming up with catchy titles (Patikim ng Pinya, etc.), anyway.

Robbie said that the movie is "timely" because it tackles a campus reality long tolerated but not really encouraged (by both school authorities and, much more, parents) – prostitution among students.

"Many parents are not aware that their children support themselves through college by selling their bodies especially when payment of tuition fees comes around," explained Robbie. "Students by day, prostitutes by night. But you can’t really blame them because times are hard. This movie should serve as an eye-opener not only for parents but also, more so, for government officials who serve only their own interests and not the people’s, thus pushing our country into a deeper economic crisis."

Directed by Don Escudero, Arayyy! features Ana Capri, Nini Jacinto, Rodel Velayo, Leonardo Litton and Simon Ibarra as the campus prostitutes.
