The overwhelming success of Anak has further inspired ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. to continue synergizing its operations to commemorate 2000 as the "Year of the OFW."

Anak, the movie by ABS-CBN's film outfit Star Cinema, is a box-office hit. On its first day alone, the movie garnered more than P14 million at the tills. The Vilma Santos-starrer is the centerpiece of the projects and services being offered by the network and its various subsidiaries for Overseas Filipino Workers. Fittingly, the premiere of Anak was held in Hong Kong where a large number of Filipina OFWs are based. The global premiere was sponsored by ABS-CBN International, Forex Cargo and Marigold Commercial Enterprises.

Having captured the attention of Filipinos to the significance of this year through the movie, ABS-CBN will continue to sustain its other services to reach out to OFWs worldwide and the families they left behind. The company has mobilized its TV, radio, Regional Network and subsidiaries such as ABS-CBN Interactive, Star Records, ABS-CBN International, ABS-CBN Publishing, ABS-CBN Consumer Products and the ABS-CBN Foundation to make it memorable to the country's new heroes.

ABS-CBN has lined up a series of activities to utilize its multi-media resources to further serve the needs of OFWs. Early this year, the website anak.com was launched by ABS-CBN Interactive, dedicated to Filipinos living abroad. In coordination with the movie, Star Records produced the Anak album, featuring music from the film plus other songs dedicated to OFWs. ABS-CBN's Alas Singko y Medya, DZMM and Regional AM stations DYAB Cebu and DXAB Davao continue to read greetings and OFW stories on air for free. Phone cards to facilitate long-distance telephone communications as well as Anak pocketbooks that will highlight the stories of OFWs will be made available. Filipinos can also watch out for more Anak-related activities to be launched by ABS-CBN this year.

Anak project is part of ABS-CBN's commitment to be of service to Filipinos, OFWs, worldwide.
