Mindanao gets 2,629 additional tutors

KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato — A total of 2,619 teaching items have been allotted by the Department of Education (DepEd) for Mindanao this school year with Central Mindanao (CM) getting the lion’s share of 501 tutors, Region 12 Director Ma. Rosa Gutierrez said here recently.

Gutierrez said the CM mentor posts — 234 for elementary school (ES) and 267 for high school (HS) — were proportionately distributed by DepEd to the region’s nine schools divisions (SDs) of North Cotabato, Saragani, South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Cotabato City, General Santos City, Koronadal City, Kidapawan City and Tacurong City which consequently eased the acute lack of teachers in these areas.

She said Education Secretary Armin Luistro authorized SD superintendents to recruit and hire the new mentors from qualified applicants who were later deployed to learning centers with big enrolments.
