Man shot in Badian

CEBU, Philippines - A man killed his own cousin after a local disco at Barangay Sohoton, Badian town, Cebu on Friday dawn.

Gilbert Dela Torre, 35, was shot dead by his cousin, Roel Dela Torre Pagao, 31.

SPO1 Geremias Elardo of Badian Police station said that the victim and the suspect were with their friends who just came from a disco where the group had a drinking session.

The suspect got very drunk and went berserk Friday dawn. He challenged everyone he met to a fistfight until Gilbert tried to pacify him.

Unfortunately, Roel reportedly got irked and pushed Gilbert back. Gilbert fell on the ground and retaliated by picking up a broken bottle of beer and tried to attack Roel.

Upon seeing this, Roel pulled out a .22 caliber pistol and shot the victim twice.

The victim was first hit on the chest while the second shot hit him at the back as he tried to flee. Gilbert died on the spot, sprawled bloodied on the ground. The suspect immediately fled.

However, in a follow-up operation conducted by the police at 7:30 a.m., suspect was caught inside their house. The police, however, failed to recover the gun which he used to kill Gilbert.

Roel is currently detained at the town police station while awaiting formal charges which will be filed against him on Monday. — (FREEMAN)
