DAVAO CITY, Philippines —Thirty-one Filipino fishermen who were repatriated from Indonesia arrived in this city yesterday.

The fishermen, who were detained in North Sulawesi either for illegal fishing or overstaying, arrived on Lapu-Lapu, a ship of the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). They were brought to the Navy station of the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) in Barangay Panacan for documentation.

The Navy’s BRP Davao del Sur picked up the fishermen from Manado on April 13 and transferred them to the BFAR ship.

Special Assistant to the President Christopher “Bong” Go and Lourdes Lim, director of the National Economic and Development Authority office in the Davao region, led officials in welcoming the fishermen.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development facilitated the return of the fishermen, mostly residents of South Cotabato and General Santos, to their respective communities.

The repatriation, the third in Manado, was in collaboration with the Department of Foreign Affairs and Eastmincom.

The repatriates were provided cash assistance, food packs and farm inputs.
