Rotary club completes 43 projects
CEBU, Philippines — From medical services to livelihood programs, the Rotary Club of Cebu Fuente, District 3860 said it has accomplished 43 projects since July and the group has promised to expand its services to benefit more people.
“We have 43 projects this year, big projects,” said Maricel Borromeo-Amores in an interview with the media during an appreciation dinner for the rotary’s partners in service last Monday evening.
District 3860 is part of the Rotary International which, according to its website, aims to bring together business and professional leaders to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
According to Amores, they began implementing the projects in July last year, which will run until June this year. One of the biggest programs the club has initiated is the distribution of free hearing aid to over 1,100 people.
Aside from this, the club also launched medical missions, hearing aid missions, and a fun run, and joined the Pink October campaign on breast cancer awareness, among others. It also distributed seedlings to farmer-beneficiaries.
Likewise, the group distributed relief goods to the victims of typhoons Urduja and Vinta in Leyte and went to the cities of Naga, Bogo, and Talisay, as well as in Bantayan Island in northern Cebu, to hold medical missions.
Amores said their club has been known for its advocacies called “A Fountain of Services from A to E.”
A stands for anti-rabies and anti-autism awareness, B for blood-letting and breast cancer awareness, C for child protection and cleft palate, D for dengue awareness, domestic violence, dental care and disaster efforts, and E for environment, enterprise, education and eye care.
Amores said the club would have been unable to achieve this without the help of its partners, which include organizations and companies in the public and private sectors, including the media such as The FREEMAN. — Malaika Grace T. Diegor and Ma. Fontas D. Madejas/JMD (FREEMAN)
