Barangay frontliners told: Monitor frat activities

Lorraine Mitzi A. Ambrad

CEBU, Philippines — Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III has called on barangay frontliners, including tanods, to intensify their monitoring on fraternities recruiting minors and conducting hazing activities.

The governor made the directive following the arrest of three frat members in Barangay Simala in Sibonga town, southern Cebu last April 4.

Police said the fratmen allegedly forced two girls, aged 11 and 12, to use shabu.

“I’m alarmed by reports that these minors were allegedly compelled by fratmen to commit unlawful acts. Please help us monitor the activities of the fraternities and report immediately to the authorities if you find out they are recruiting minors,” the governor said.

Moreover, the governor claimed that fraternities are reportedly recruiting minors in some 51 towns and cities in the province.

In fact, he said, a school principal in Badian town asked assistance from the Capitol because of the presence of fraternities reportedly recruiting high school students there.

“Nahadlok ko nga mokuyanap unya kini maong ato ning pakgangon samtang sayo pa,” he said. —/KBQ (FREEMAN)
