Tourist falls while taking selfie on Osmeña Peak
CEBU, Philippines — A 35-year-old Chinese tourist suffered injuries after falling from a platform on Osmeña Peak where she was reportedly taking a selfie yesterday afternoon.
The tourist was identified as Lau Tin Yan, a Chinese national from Hong Kong.
Osmeña Peak, a popular destination for adventure seekers because of its picturesque view of Cebu’s southern countryside, is located within the jurisdiction of Badian town.
However, policemen from Dalaguete were among those who responded to the scene because they have personnel stationed near the area.
Dalaguete Mayor Ronald Allan Cesante said Lau had a laceration on her hip and was brought to a hospital in Mandaue City.
Initial investigation showed that because of moderate winds, the victim lost her balance while taking photos on the peak.
“Mipatong ni sa tip sa bato sa Osmeña Peak, nag-selfie/nag-picture. Due to slight strong wind, na-outbalance, then nahug,” Cesante wrote in a text message to The FREEMAN.
“Medium built ang lady. Nasayop siya og stepping over the rocks,” he added.
Junry Tenefrancia, disaster officer in Dalaguete, said Lau fell about 10 to 15 meters.
He advised tourists not to stay on the edge of the peak or in danger areas to avoid similar incidents. —/JMD (FREEMAN)
