Girl, 3, dies in fire

MANILA, Philippines — A three-year-old girl died in a fire in Sitio Kabatuan, Barangay Maribago, Lapu-Lapu, Cebu on Tuesday night.

The charred remains of Mary Julian Castillano were found by responders shortly after the fire was put out.

The victim’s father, Dante; her siblings Mary Jeraldine, 7; Junrel, 2, and Dante Jr., 5, suffered minor burns and were brought to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital for treatment.

Senior Fire Officer 1 Zener Seno said they have yet to determine what caused the fire, which only destroyed the house of the Castillanos. 

Local and barangay officials have offered to provide financial and burial assistance to the family of the victims.
