Lady Spikers seek top spot vs Falcons

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Three-peat-seeking La Salle carries an extra motivation when it plays Adamson today in the UAAP Season 80 women’s volleyball tournament at the Filoil Flying V Center.

Aside from clinching Top spot and twice-to-beat edge in the Final Four with a game to spare, the streaking Lady Spikers (10-2) get pumped up even more by the prospect of avenging their shocking 18-25, 25-15, 19-25, 22-25 first-round defeat at the hands of the Lady Falcons (5-6) in the 2 p.m. encounter.

A vengeful DLSU win today also shuts the door on the semis hopes of the Lady Falcons.

“One of our goals is to get back at the teams that beat us and at the same time correct whatever mistakes we made in the previous game against Adamson,” said coach Ramil de Jesus, whose wards went on a six-game roll after that setback to AdU.

“We’ll be more aggressive now that we’re motivated by revenge,” said DLSU star Kim Dy.

The Lady Falcons don’t need much encouragement to repeat over the Lady Spikers. The Adamson belles are fighting for dear life, needing to win this one and their next against also-ran UST while hoping NU drops its last game versus Far Eastern on Sunday, to force a playoff for the fourth and last semis berth.

Meanwhile, the Lady Tams (8-4) seek to tie idle Ateneo (9-4) at second spot as they play eliminated University of the East (2-10) at 4 p.m.
