Century trees, bawal nang putulin sa QC
MANILA, Philippines — Bawal nang putulin ang mga matatandang punongkahoy sa Quezon City na tinaguriang mga century trees.
Ito ay makaraang lagdaan at aprubahan ni QC Mayor Herbert Bautista ang ordinansa na nagbabawal sa pamumutol ng mga puno na naideklarang mga century o heritage trees.
“All trees declared as Century and Heritage Trees’ shall not be subjected to any cutting or any form of destruction, except for medical, public emergency, public safety and botanical reasons and shall be preserved and maintained in its natural state. The prohibition shall also apply to all plants and animals that live within or are dependent on said tree for their survival, including mammals, birds, reptiles or ferns,” nakasaad sa Section 5 of City Ordinance 2638-2017 read.
Mayroon ding mga naideklarang century trees kahit wala pang 100 taon ang edad bastat ito ay maituturing na rare species na dapat ingatan. Maglalagay ang QC government ng metal plate sa mga puno na naideklara ng century tree para maprotektahan ito at mapangalagaan at hindi dapat na putulin.
