Kill us

THE EAR - The Freeman

Lost in translation. An Ear source swears by this story: When archbishop emeritus Ricardo Cardinal Vidal was still new to Cebu he did his best to conduct masses in Visayan although he was not yet familiar with the language and specific pronunciations.

During one mass he startled the faithful when he said “Ginoo, pamatia kami (Lord, kill us)” instead of “Ginoo, pamati-a kami (Lord, hear us)”. It was all just a matter of articulating the word.

Fortunately, she said the Cardinal was able to correct this mistake eventually.
