NBI steps in, to probe businessman’s ambush
CEBU, Philippines — The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will conduct a parallel investigation into the ambush incident involving a businessman at San Agustine Heights in Barangay Tisa, Cebu City past midnight of Friday.
Vincent Rojo, 39, who was driving his Dodge Charger car, survived the ambush attempt allegedly perpetrated by more than five assailants near his residence.
The assailants used a white sedan and two motorcycles as their getaway vehicles.
Rojo sustained non-fatal gunshot wound to his forehead and other minor injuries in the different parts of his body from the broken glass of his car.
The police recovered a total of 18 slugs of an M16 rifle at the crime scene.
NBI Special Agent Arnel Apura said they will be conducting an investigation, since the victim’s wife requested for their intervention.
He added that they already had the custody of the victim’s car which will be subjected to a forensic examination together with the Cebu Provincial Police Office (CPPO) - Scene of the Crime Operations.
Apura also said they will also be coordinating with the CCPO homicide section for the development of the case.
“Mahulog kini nga joint-investigation kay ang first responder ang PNP man. Kinahanglan ang coordination sa pag-identify sa suspect(s),”said Apura.
Meanwhile, Senior Police Officer 3 Rommel Bancog, homicide investigator, said they are still conducting further investigation regarding the case.
Bancog added that they are hoping to talk with the victim to get his testimony and eventually will help in their investigation.
CCPO Director Joel Doria already directed his policemen to check the closed-circuit television footages in the area to get a possible lead as to identity of the suspects. —/GAN (FREEMAN)
