CEBU, Philippines - The 10th Charter Day celebration of Baybay City in Leyte went festive and awesome with the switching on and opening to the public the 16K Blooms or the 16,000 LED-lighted flowers laid out on the city’s Lintaon Peak Wednesday evening.

Mayor Carmen Cari—assisted by her son, Vice Mayor Michael Cari, city councilors, and Leyte Provincial Board Members (5th district) Florante Cayunda Jr. and Emmanuel Gacis—led the formal opening of the newest attraction of the young city.

Mayor Cari said the new tourist attraction is a project of the city government in coordination with the City Tourism Office, and her son, Leyte Fifth District Representative Jose Carlos Cari.

The mayor said she will endorse to the Regional Development Council the declaration of 16K Blooms, is composed of 16,000 flowers in LED lights and formed at the center of I Love Baybay.

Cari said she will endorse to the Regional Development Council (RDC) to make the site as a regional attraction. Besides being at the center of the I Love Baybay marker, a tall image of the city patron saint will be added on the site, she said.

Located some seven kilometers from the top of the Lintaon Peak at Barangay Lintaon, one could also enjoy the horizon, which is similar to the scenery of Basco, Batanes, as it overlooks the city proper of Baybay and its nearby islets of Leyte. (FREEMAN)
