Lyceum, LSGH capture Milcu cage crowns

MANILA, Philippines - Lyceum and La Salle Greenhills downed their separate rivals to rule their respective divisions in the Milcu Got Skills Hard To Guard basketball tournament at the Enderun Colleges Gym recently.

The LPU Pirates leaned on CJ Perez to overcome Jose Rizal University, 78-74, and claim the 25-under crown, while VJ David powered the LSGH Greenies past Lyceum, 71-58, in the 19-under final of the tournament sponsored by Milcu and sanctioned by the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas.

Perez had 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists on his way to winning the Most Valuable Player award for the Pirates, who finally took the 25-under title after settling for second to Ateneo in the Elite Showcase conference last October.

Jed Mendoza came away with 18 points and seven rebounds but the Heavy Bombers fell short of their title bid in the tournament also backed by Basketball TV, Gerry’s Grill, Gatorade, Clyde Shoe Cleaner, LGR, SLAM, Rain or Shine, Honda, Coach Athletic Trainers Tape, Secret Fresh, Mighty Sports, Nousha Kebabs and Barbeque, FMR Bus Services, and Patricio’s Online Sneaker Source.

David spearheaded the Greenies with 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists as they bucked the 20-point effort of Junior Pirates cager Marj De Leon.

Meanwhile, the Milcu Sports Basketball Summer Showcase kicks off this Saturday with a huge field set to clash for top honors in various divisions.
