I understand. An elderly American national who has been living in Cebu for some time now can actually speak the Visayan language but hides it anyway "because it's fun" when others try to speak to him in broken English.

He said he has actually gets more information that way, when he pretends he cannot understand what cashiers, taxi drivers, government officials, travel agents, and other people say when they talk among themselves.

However, he said it is not all fun because sometimes he hears people making fun of him thinking he cannot understand them.
