Lapu-Lapu council makes committee changes

Garry B. Lao - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The Lapu-Lapu City Council yesterday reorganized the chairmanships and memberships of its standing committees following the death of councilor Damian Gomez, who passed away at the age of 66.

Acting vice mayor Harry Radaza said the reason for the changes is the vacuum left behind by Gomez, who handled the committees on social services and on senior citizens, which were given to City Councilor Nelson Yap.

Radaza said there was no actual reshuffling of committees but only the filling up of the committee posts left vacant by Gomez’s demise.

Chairmanship of the other committees are as follows: finance and appropriation and education, culture, heritage and historical affairs, women, children and family relations, Councilor Melissa Dignos Vidal; health and hospital services, Councilor Cipriano Flores; infrastructure, public works, urban planning and housing, Councilor Roque Wagwag; laws and human rights, Yap; market and abattoir and environment and natural resources, Councilor Ricardo Amores.

Cooperative and livelihood, Councilor Leo Mercado; accreditation, Councilor Eduardo Patalinjug; business and industry, energy and power, and labor and employment, Councilor Gregorio Paquibot; ethics, good government, transparency and accountability, Councilor Flavian Hiyas Jr.; transportation and communication and games and amusement, Councilor Leo Mercado; youth and development, Vice Mayor Radaza; police, fire and penology and dangerous drugs, drug abuse and drug trafficking, Councilor Elias Berdin.

District assignments of the 12 city councilors, who all belong to Team Deretso of Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Paz Radaza, were given according to their locations. (FREEMAN)
