Program to speed up justice launched
MANILA, Philippines - Reforms in the criminal justice system in the country will get a boost through the Governance in Justice (GoJust) program to be launched today.
The program, supported by the European Union, aims to “contribute to inclusive growth and poverty reduction through strengthened, efficient and accountable justice system,” according an advisory from the United Nations Office for Project Services.
Head of agencies under the five pillars of justice system – law enforcement, prosecution, courts, penal system and community – are expected to spearhead the launch at the Manila Hotel this morning.
Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II and Interior and Local Government Secretary Ismael Sueno will discuss issues involving processes in the judicial and justice system.
Pressing issues on extrajudicial killings of drug suspects, proliferation of illegal drug trade in the New Bilibid Prison, scalawags in the police force and decongestion of jails are also expected to be raised.
