CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Council has requested the Department of Engineering and Public Works to inspect the roads and come up with programs of works and estimates for the immediate repairs.

Members of the City Council have noticed that several roads in the city are littered with potholes. Among the roads identified to be very dilapidated are the Mambaling Access Road; D. Jakosalem Street (in front of China Bank near Plaza Sugbo), portion of OPRRA Village Unit 2, Unit 3, and Unity 4, nearby roads of Peace Valley, Lahug; Don Bernardo Benedicto Street (in between OPASCOR and M. Lhuillier Warehouse going to Robinson's Galleria Cebu); and roads near T. Padilla Extension.

Councilor Jocelyn Pesquera authored the resolution asking the DEPW to immediately take action on the problem.

"With the onset of the rainy season, poor road conditions such as erosion or potholes can be the cause of serious car damage or even injuries for the unwary driver," she said.

Pesquera said the potholes on the roads are also causing traffic congestion since motorists need to slow down or avoid it.

She said it is the responsibility of the city government to continually improve and maintain its roads and drainage system to keep the motorists and the public safe.

"Ako gyud ni gipaadtoan sa akong staff para makita ang conditions sa roads. And naa gyud photos to prove nga naay potholes. Dapat gyud ning ma-aksyonan," she said.

Pesquera said she is willing to sponsor the resolution approving all the programs of works and estimates for the repairs. She added that she will continue to send her staff to different streets to monitor the condition.  (FREEMAN)
