Man shot dead;woman hit by stray bullet

CEBU, Philippines - A habal-habal driver was shot dead by an unidentified assailant last Friday evening at Saint Jude Acres corner N. Bacalso Ave, Barangay Bulacao Pardo, Cebu City.

The victim, identified as Jeremias Siago 49, was a resident of Saint Jude Compound Phase 3 on Climaco Street. 

According to a police informant, Siago was last seen dropping off a passenger when the gunman came from behind and suddenly fired several shots at him. 

A concerned citizen brought Siago to Cebu City Medical Center using the barangay ambulance but the victim was later declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Personnel from the Cebu City Police Office Homicide Section responded to the alarm and disclosed that further investigation will be conducted to determine the identity of the suspect and the motive behind the shooting. 

In Sitio Silayan in Barangay Inayawan, a 46-year-old woman was hit by a stray bullet last Friday afternoon. 

Lucrisia Iwayan was doing her family’s laundry around 2 p.m. when she heard a loud gunshot and felt pain on her left shoulder. 

The victim’s sister, Angelita, upon seeing blood oozing out from Lucrisia’s wound, immediately sought assistance from her neighbors.

Lucrisia was rushed to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for immediate medical treatment.

A response team from the Cebu City Police Office led by Senior Police Officer 2 Rommel Bancog did not recover any bullet. Investigation is still ongoing into the incident.  (FREEMAN)
