LOS BAÑOS, Laguna, Philippines – Filipino and Korean scientists, academics and development administrators converged here on Sept. 29-30 for their 2016 national assembly and convention.
The Philippine-Rural Development Administration (Korea) Alumni Association (PhilRAA) conference focused on the theme “Technology Transmission to Community Transformation.”
PhilRAA is a body composed of Filipino professionals who have undergone scientific programs, projects and training activities in South Korea as well as South Koreans who have participated in scientific exchange visits and activities in the Philippines.
Since 2005, the Philippines, through the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development, and South Korea, through the Rural Development Administration, have been implementing and pursuing scientific exchanges for the mutual benefit of both countries.
To date, PhilRAA has completed three R&D projects in the Philippines. These are “Technology demonstration farm of Korean natural dyes, technology, and crafts,” “Model farms on Japonica rice production” and “Enhanced production of spray-type chrysanthemum through integrated crop management.”
Three others have been programmed to be undertaken from 2016 to 2018, Julian Lapitan of the Los Baños-based International Rice Research Institute and PhilRAA president, said.
