Chinese eye infra projects in General Santos

The Philippine Star

NANNING, China – Chinese investors plan to work with the local government of General Santos to develop the city’s infrastructure, particularly its airport, a trade official said.

Rowena Mendoza, events services chief of the Department of Trade and Industry’s Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions (CITEM),  said the investors from China have expressed interest to invest in General Santos City’s infrastructure following the 13th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) here.

“After their promotional conference, GenSan was able to meet around 15 interested investors for the joint venture. The interest was for infrastructure, more on collaboration on the development of the airport,” Mendoza said.

General Santos was chosen as this year’s City of Charm of the Philippines for the 13th CAEXPO.

The Pavilion of Cities of Charm is one of the major pavilions of the CAEXPO and it aims to showcase opportunities of the exhibiting cities in tourism, culture, education, and science and technology in order to extend the country-to-country cooperation among the cities.

China-ASEAN executive president Xu Ningning earlier said Chinese investors were ready to invest in the Philippines, citing infrastructure development as one important area for collaboration.

Despite continuing territorial disputes, Philippine-China relations have been warming up following the election of President Duterte.
