Barrientos nails 2 titles in MVP jrs badminton

MANILA, Philippines - Catherine Joyce Barrientos of Notre Dame Kidapawan trampled teammate Regina Glaze Neri, 21-14, 21-10, to pocket the girls’ under-15 title in the Mindanao Leg of the MVP National Juniors Badminton Championship in Koronadal City, South Cotabato recently.

Barrientos later teamed up with Neri to down Karylle Kaye Molina of Talomo Anchors of Davao City and Maxeene Renee Olango of Cagayan de Oro Shuttle Buster, 21-9, 21-10, and claimed the doubles crown.

Ethan Dupet of Tacurong City’s Battledore Team subdued Kent Joshua Cruz of MRBBC D’Smashers, 21-18, 21-16, to capture the boys’ U-13 trophy, his second in the four-day tournament organized by Forthright Events represented by tournament director Yoly Araullo.

Dupet also took the U-11 title with a 21-9, 21-12 rout of Redmond Paul Rivera of Panabo Smashers Club.

Maxene Renee Olango of CDO Shuttle Busters edged Lady Zazhca Tuario of Metro Kidapawan, 17-21, 21-15, 21-11, to snare the girls’ U-13 plum while Althea Dawn Ocampo of Gingoog City bested Andre Alexis Macalaglag of CBDD Smashers of Mati, 21-19, 21-14, to cop the girls’ U-11 diadem.

Other winners were Denis Ben Felipe and Johnyl Mialda (U-15 doubles), Ron Danelle Cabalquinto and Arthur Samuel Gavarra Salvado (U-17 doubles), Karylle Kaye Molina and Jennifer Helyn Saladaga (U-17 doubles), Jervin Dyler Carlos and Josh Olin Defensor (U-19 doubles), Jiselle Joy Capillo and Marinel Diansay (U-19 doubles), Dennis Ben Felipe and Camille Buagas (U-15 mixed).
