Town police head sacked for failing to stop gambling

Primo A. Cayubit - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - For alleged failure to stop illegal gambling in his area of jurisdiction, the chief of police of Tabontabon town in Leyte was relieved from his post effective last April 25.

The Police Regional Office-8 confirmed the ouster of Senior Inspector Julie Quimbo as chief of the Tabontabon Police, after operatives of the Regional Special Operations Task Group, raided an illegal gambling spot, known as sa pula-sa puti, in front of the police station and the parish church in the evening of April 24.

Chief Supt. Erwin Villacorte, PRO-8 regional director, told The Freeman he relieved Quimbo from his post and named Sr. Insp. Rex Pabunan as the new town police chief.

Villacorte said the RSOTG, led by Supt. Marlon Quimno, arrested six suspects during the surprise raid on the illegal gambling den, and seized their gambling paraphernalia.

The gambling den also irked Palo Archbishop John Du for being operated right in front of the St. Anthony of Padua Parish church and an eyesore to churchgoers.  (FREEMAN)
