WATCH: Duterte ‘captures voters’ frustration,’ says analyst
MANILA, Philippines — An analyst said presidential candidate and Davao City Rodrigo “Rody” Duterte, currently leading the major surveys, is able to capture voters’ disenchantment, discontent and frustration that earned him high ratings.
According to Dindo Manhit, managing director of consultancy firm Stratbase, voters’ frustration on issues triggered extremity of anger and fear rising from crime and drug addiction, which Duterte vows to eradicate. He said the mayor’s portrayal of tough leadership and disciplinarian style was also perceived to wipe out corruption.
Although his non-traditional thread gives him lead, Manhit says it can also become his weakness. He cited the recent rape joke of the mayor as one of the issues that could make him swing backward.
