MANILA, Philippines – President Aquino will lead tomorrow’s transfer of former president Elpidio Quirino’s remains to the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City.

Presidential Communications Development and Strategic Planning Office Undersecretary Manuel Quezon III said over radio dzRB yesterday that such kinds of ceremony happen rarely, this time to coincide with Quirino’s 60th death anniversary.

Quirino’s remains are currently at the Manila South Cemetery in Makati City.

“President Quirino will be the third president to be buried sa Libingan ng mga Bayani, joining (former presidents Carlos) Garcia and (Diosdado) Macapagal,” Quezon said.

Quirino, who was born in Vigan on Nov. 16, 1890, assumed the remaining term of then president Manuel Roxas from April 17, 1948 to Dec. 30, 1949 when the latter died of heart attack. He was elected in November 1949 for a term that began on Dec. 30, 1949 up to Dec. 30, 1953.
