Korina optimistic Cebu will choose Mar

Mitchelle L. Palaubsanon - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Veteran broadcaster Korina Sanchez picked on the Cebuanos’ voting culture in pushing for the candidacy of her husband Mar Roxas, Liberal Party’s bet for president.

“Ang mga Cebuanos hindi sila tumitingin sa drama kundi ang trabaho. That’s what Mar is – walang drama, trabaho lang,” Sanchez told a group of women and senior citizens in Consolacion town.

She said Cebuanos are historically smart voters who will vote not just for continuity but for an improvement of what has been started.

“I think Cebu should vote for him as during the Daang Matuwid administration, napakaraming magandang bagay na nangyari sa Cebu. If only for that, babalik pa ba tayo sa hindi sigurado?” Sanchez added.

She is positive Roxas will have the same response he received from Cebuanos in previous elections.

“I will say Mar will win in Cebu number one. Traditionally, he is always number one in Cebu. He is a true Visayan,” Sanchez said.

Cebu has the most number of registered voters at 2.7 million.

In her talk in Consolacion, Sanchez said despite coming from an illustrious family, Roxas has lived a simple life and prefers simpler things – like a Timex watch over a Rolex.

She said Roxas will benefit from being with the ruling party. “I think it is expected that whoever he (Aquino) endorses will benefit from his credibility,” she said.

During the talk, Sanchez acknowledged seven-year-old John James Cabahug of Barangay Jugan, one of the 50 kids from across the country given an artificial leg.

The boy’s mother, Josie, could not control her emotions.

“Nagpasalamat gyud ko ni mam Korina nga iyang gitabangan akong anak. Makalakaw na gyud og tarong akong anak,” she said in between tears.

Sanchez, for her part, said, “Sabi nga nila nag-level up na ako, from giving tsinelas to giving artificial legs.” — (FREEMAN)
