Japanese hurt in road accident
CEBU, Philippines - A Japanese national landed in the hospital after a speeding motorcycle hit her while crossing Escario Street in Cebu City Monday night.
The victim was identified as Yuyu Oki, 22, temporarily staying at a condominium unit along Juana Osmeña in Barangay Kamputhaw, Cebu City.
The suspect, Wesley Mendoza, 23, of Sitio Kawayan, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City, was arrested while trying to get away from the area.
According to Wing-wing Tagaan, records-in-charge at the Traffic Patrol Group, the accident happened at around 9 p.m. last Monday. Mendoza was driving his Honda motorcycle coming from Barangay Lahug and was heading towards Banawa in Barangay Guadalupe.
Upon reaching in front of Capitol Parish, Oki suddenly crossed the street resulting in Mendoza’s hitting him. The Japanese was immediately brought to the Chong Hua Hospital for medical attention.
Mendoza tried to run away but was chased by a concerned citizen and eventually arrested. He was later turned over to the personnel of the Cebu City Transportation Office.
Mendoza is now detained at the Fuente Police Station and will be facing criminal complaint for reckless imprudence resulting in physical injury and driving without license. —(FREEMAN)
