Katie Holmes has zero regrets

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines – Despite more than a decade-spanning silver screen career and even a more high-profile marriage to ex-husband Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes insists she’s an ordinary gal.

“I’m a normal person and I do walk around,” the New York City resident dished to Ocean Drive magazine of her life today as an actor, director, burgeoning artist and mom of nine-year-old Suri.

“If you’re having a bad day, you just take a walk, and it’s not only that you see people who are having a worse day than you, it’s just that you’re in life. You suddenly can’t be stuck in whatever problem you’re in because you have to hail a cab or you have to get a subway ticket. There’s more than just you and I think the harsh winters give you a little bit of character.”

For someone who’s played her fair share of characters, Holmes’ title as mother has had arguably the most lasting effect on her personal life.

“Motherhood changes you completely in such amazing ways, and I think that you become who you were meant to be,” she said. “Being a parent also is a source of inspiration to just work really hard. You want to set an example—your kids are what drives you.”

However, the 36-year-old Ohio native unfortunately isn’t feeling any particular driving force toward her old stomping grounds on the set of “Dawson’s Creek.”

“‘Dawson’s Creek’ was such a special time in all of our lives, but some things are better when it stays the way it was,” she said of the possibility of a reunion of the ‘90s TV classic. “I would love to get together with everybody, but I’m not sure a reunion would be as fulfilling as what we all want it to be.”

Holmes’ is already juggling a plate overflowing with projects, including a recurring role on “Ray Donovan,” her feature film directorial debut for “All We Had,” a drastic new character in “Touched With Fire” and a discreet dabbling in painting.

All in all, according to the brunette beauty, things are going well.  “I really enjoy my life,” she said. “I don’t really regret anything that I’ve done. I’ve learned from everything, and everything sort of leads you to the next place. I just keep going.”
