NBI to unveil memorial marker for fallen agents

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) will unveil a memorial marker in recognition of the gallantry of its fallen agents as part of the celebration of its 79th founding anniversary on Nov. 13.

NBI Deputy Director for Regional Operations Edmundo Arugay, chairman of the committee on memorial marker, said they would put up the “NBI Wall of Honor” to pay tribute to the bureau’s agents who have died in the line of duty.

Arugay said the marker aims to inspire NBI agents and personnel.

The bureau is building the six-foot memorial marker beside the NBI chapel.

“The marker is a testament to the heroism of fallen NBI agents. Let their gallantry be a reminder worthy of emulation by the next generations,” Arugay said.

“Since the inception of the NBI 78 years ago, no such honor has been bestowed on these valiant agents. It is but fitting that we honor our own fallen heroes,” he added.

Arugay said only five names of former NBI agents would be placed on the wall.

The theme for this year’s anniversary is “NBI…Valuing the past, embracing the future.”

The NBI looks back to how it fared almost eight decades ago. It was founded on Nov. 13, 1936.
