Jaworski son posts P.48-M bail
MANILA, Philippines - A Makati judge ordered the release of a son of basketball legend and former senator Robert Jaworski from police custody after his lawyer posted P480,000 bail on four counts of attempted murder yesterday.
In a one-page order, Regional Trial Court Branch 139 Judge Benjamin Pozon also set Ryan Joseph Jaworski’s arraignment on Nov. 11.
On Oct. 13, the Makati city prosecutor’s office indicted the 40-year-old Jaworski and his driver Joselito Au, 50, for four counts of attempted murder each in connection with a shootout that happened during a sting in the city on Sept. 19.
The prosecutor’s office also indicted Jaworski of illegal gun possession, but not the illegal sale of a gun, which was the target of the sting.
The prosecutor’s office said there was no actual sale of the M4 Armalite rifle when Jaworski was arrested by the National Capital Region Police Office.
It also dismissed the charge of assault on an agent of a person of authority against Jaworski, saying the suspect could not have known during the gun bust that the operatives were law enforcers since they were not in uniform.
