CEBU, Philippines - Following the death of the chief of Asturias Police Station, the Cebu Provincial Police Office director appointed Senior Inspector Narciso Abapo as the station’s officer-in-charge.

CPPO director Noel Gillamac said he immediately appointed a police official to head the station especially with the end of classes.

“Sa pagkamatay ni Senior Inspector Devocion, immediately gi-appoint nako si Senior Inspector Abapo para naa’y maka-manage, especially karon nga summer vacation na,” he said.

Abapo will take charge of Asturias Police Station until such time the town mayor can choose the next chief of police in their town, said Gillamac.

Gillamac said Devocion’s family will be given P60,000 cash assistance. Devocion died of heart attack.

“We’ll be giving P60,000 to the family out of the contribution from all the chief of police and personnel of CPPO,” he said.

Following Devocion’s death, the CPPO director reminded police officers to take care of their health, especially with the advent of the mild El Niño.

Gillamac said aside from physical fitness activities, police personnel should personally go to a medical doctor to consult if they have any illnesses.

Abapo assured to follow what was ordered to him and will start reporting to the station today.

“Di man pud ingon nga magpa-dissapoint ‘ta kay na-assign na man pud ko didto sauna,” he said, adding he will continue the programs of the Philippine National Police, especially their fight against illegal activities. — (FREEMAN)
