Goldberry, RDAK Transporters rule The Avenir SHAABAA Cup
CEBU, Philippines – Goldberry-Iloilo Hotel and RDAK Transporters prevailed over their respective rivals in the deciding match of their best-of-three finals series to rule the 2014 Sacred Heart Ateneo Alumni Basketball Athletic Associuation season billed as The Avenir SHAABAA Cup last Sunday at the Magis Eagles Arena of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Barangay Canduman, Mandaue City.
Jeremy Huang sparkled with 21 points as Goldberry tamed the Cebu Landmasters, 75-70, to snare the Division A championship, while RDAK completely outclassed Chick @ Phil 89, 57-41, to romp off with the Division B crown.
Four other players cashed in double figures for Goldberry, which rode on a third-quarter explosion to pin down the Cebu Landmasters.
Former PBA star Joel Co banged in 14 points, while man mountain Robert Gilo and former MVP awardee Dave Lim scattered 13 and 12 markers, respectively for Goldberry.
After a 39-all stalemate at halftime, Goldberry suddenly turned red-hot, unleashing a 18-9 rally to take full control of the match the rest of the way. With a 57-48 advantage entering the final 10-minute mark of the contest, Golberry deftly neutralized the offense of Cebu Landmasters towards the end to escape with a five-point victory.
Ex-collegiate standout Moncrief Rogado paced the Cebu Landmasters with 19 points. Kyle Valmoria finished with 15 points, while Daryl Tan and Christopher Consunji each had 10 points in a losing effort.
In Division B finale, Charleson Sia topscored for RDAK with 12 points. Anthony Ngujo and Cecilio Gillamac netted 10 points apiece for the Transporters, who were never threatened after posting an eight-point edge at the break, 24-16. RDAK kept its relentless offensive in the final half to come up with a 16-point demolition.
Mark Guanzon was the lone twin-digit scorer for Chick @ Phil 89 with 11.
