Ateneo Open 4 unwraps today

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - University of the Philippines kicks off its title-retention bid in the women’s competitive division of the Ateneo Open 4 volleyball tournament beginning today at the Blue Eagle Gym.

Behind the efforts of last year’s MVP Kathy Bersola, the Lady Maroons foiled the fancied Unicorns, 25-20, 25-15, 19-25, 25-21, to capture the championship.

The Unicorns, runners-up in the last two editions of the event, remain a top contender in the five-day event.

Also competing are ASC, Laiya Coco Groove, Maroons Alumni, National University, College of St. Benilde, Jose Rizal University, Mapua and Technological Institute of the Philippines.

In the 15-team men’s competitive division, National Idols Force, formerly known as the Makati Idols, opens its title-retention bid against a tough cast led by Ateneo.

The Ateneo Open 4 has also put up a non-competitive division which drew 10 teams in both the women’s and men’s divisions.
