Blasts rock Lamitan village

Roel Pareño - The Philippine Star

ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines – Tension gripped village residents when two improvised explosive devices (IED) exploded almost simultaneously in Lamitan City, Basilan Friday night.

The explosions occurred at around 9:15 p.m. in front of the compound of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) in Barangay Kulay Bato, said Lt. Gen. Rustico Guerrero, Western Mindanao Command chief.

Guerrero said no one was reported hurt in the incident that damaged two power posts.

He said the military immediately secured the area and investigated the type of bombs used.

No one has claimed responsibility yet for the latest bomb attack, which occurred barely two days after a similar incident in Barangay Maganda.
