Audi 2.5 TFSI voted “International Engine of the Year” for fifth time
MANILA, Philippines - The Audi 2.5-liter TFSI engine is the “International Engine of the Year” for 2014 in the 2 to 2.5- liter category. The five-cylinder car has now won the award for the fifth consecutive time.
An international jury of experts made up of 82 automotive journalists selected the 2.5-liter TFSI as the winner in its class: “Power, performance and an impressive sound – this engine has it all,” the jury said in the reasoning for its decision.
The 2.5 TFSI powers the production Audi RS Q3. The direct-injection turbocharged engine produces 310 hp from a displacement of 2,480cc at 5,200–6,700 rpm. Its maximum torque of 420Nm is available between 1,500 and 5,200 rpm. The car accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds. Its maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 km/h.
This is Audi’s tenth time being named “International Engine of the Year.” Between 2005 and 2009, Audi won the coveted honor with the 2.0 TFSI in the 1.8 to 2.0-liter category. This makes the fifth victory in a row for the 2.5 liter TFSI. Board Member for Technical Development Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg: “The five-cylinder engine has a long tradition going back to the original quattro, and the consecutive victories confirm the sustained success of Audi TFSI technology. We will maintain our intensive efforts to write yet another chapter in the success story of this concept.”
The honor was presented during the recent Engine Expo in Stuttgart. Audi AG Head of Powertrain Development Dr. Stefan Knirsch: “The 2.5-liter TFSI engine is a true high-performance engine. The early application of high torque and high agility provide maximum driving enjoyment.”
