Doug Liman says ‘Edge of Tomorrow’ is his ‘biggest film ever'

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines- What would you do if you could live, die, and live again?

This is what Tom Cruise’s character, Major William Cage, a military PR man, goes through with every single day of his life in the film “Edge of Tomorrow.”

After he had a row with a four-star general and was sent to an alien-induced time loop, Cage continually lives and dies again and again, only to wake up in the same situation.

Impossible it may seem for him since he’s never been in the military frontline, Cage could be the only hope to change the outcome of the war that human kind have been long fighting against the indefatigable alien force called “Mimic.”

“The concept of this really unique time loop hooked me in,” says director Doug Liman. “It opened everything up and created an opportunity to explore what was interesting about Tom’s character and to witness, day after day of the same day, what takes Cage to the brink.

“It also forces him to become not only the soldier, but the man, he has to be. When I find a project like this that has a deeper meaning conveyed with tremendous action and great humor, that’s a movie I want to make.”

With the great concept and cast ever dedicated to the film, Liman believes that "Edge of Tomorrow" is his “biggest film ever.”

“I’ve never made a sci-fi movie, or a story about time travel and this one has both and a lot more,” he explained. “Both on and off screen, everyone was completely committed to taking chances and making the most compelling film possible, and I think it really shows."

“Edge of Tomorrow” will open in Philippine cinemas starting June 5.
