Ex-soldier jailed for threatening lawyer
CEBU, Philippines - A former member of the Philippine Army was arrested Sunday for allegedly threatening a lawyer using a firearm.
The alleged incident happened after the vehicles of the two men involved collided in Barangay Kasambagan last Sunday afternoon.
The ex-army, identified as Mauricio Santiago Jr., 68, allegedly used a gun in demanding that the lawyer, Marven Panares, 36, show his vehicle registration.
PO3 Ricky Coca of the Motorcycle Response Unit (MRU) said it was Panares who called them and sought for their help. Coca, PO2 Francisco Ricafort, and PO2 Renel Francis Jimenez immediately proceeded to the area of collision and arrested Santiago.
They recovered a licensed pistol from Santiago, but he reportedly did not carry a Permit to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR).
He was placed under arrest for grave threats, grave coercion, and for failure to carry the permit to carry. A formal complaint was filed against him yesterday. (FREEMAN)
