Red Photoworld Asia 2014 speaker

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Raymond Red was the enfant terrible of his generation, when in his early 20s he broke ground for the emerging independent film movement and quickly gained recognition by winning awards for his numerous experimental and narrative super-8mm and 16mm short films in the ’80s.

At 27, Red produced his first full-length feature film Bayan in 1992, followed by another historical epic Sakay in 1993. Both films were released in commercial cinemas and were highly acclaimed. His 1997 television feature Kamada which starred the late Francis Magalona won awards from the Philippine Broadcasters Association and the Asian TV Awards. Red also has the distinction of the first Filipino to have won a Palme D’Or award at the Cannes Film festival in 2000 for his short film Anino (2000).

At PhotoWorld Asia 2014 to be held from Jan. 30 to Feb. 4, Red will share his insights in filmmaking. With today’s video-capable DSLRs, film making has become an important field of expertise for photographers. Convention participants will be given a chance to interact with Red during the Q&A portion of his lecture.

PWA is an annual photography trade show and convention which has been held continuously for the past 26 years. The trade show at the Glorietta will showcase the latest photography products, while the international photographers’ conference at the Asia Institute of Management (AIM) in Makati will feature US wedding photographer Denis Reggie as main speaker. Papa Jack of 90.7 Love Radio, landscape photographer Edwin Martinez of Chasing Light, Malaysian photographer Min Ho, bird photography masters Ven Rojas, Alain Pascua and Rey Sta. Ana, body painting artist Eric Cabales and fashion photographer Mark Nicdao.

Outside of the convention, a photo shoot with professional models will be conducted during the hands-on workshop at Fernwood in Quezon City with Denis Reggie, Min Ho and Eric Cabales.
