Tacloban asks P18.5B from nat'l gov't for rebuilding efforts

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Tacloban City government is asking the national government P18.5 billion to fund the rebuilding efforts amid the widespread devastation caused by typhoon Yolanda.

Tacloban City Administrator Tecson John Lim said the proposal was submitted through the office of Leyte first district Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

Lim said the fund will be used in coming up with a climate change-resilent master plan for the city, and for the rebuilding of government agencies and replacement of damaged heavy equipment, vehicles, office furniture and drainage system.

Lim said the city might become dependent on Internal Revenue Allotment fund unless businesses will bounce back.

He added that from January to February, the city expects P200 million from the renewal of business permits and other taxes.

"We are really hoping that the national government will come to our aid when it comes to these matters and provide us cash assistance that the city government will need to continue its regular operations,” he said.
