Philippines to experience fair weather over the weekend

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Philippines except Northern Luzon will experience fair weather over the weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said on Friday.

PAGASA's weather forecaster Alvin Pura said most areas in the country will experience partly cloudy skies to at times cloudy with possible passing rains in the afternoon or evening due to localized thunderstorms.

Pura added that there is a very slim chance that a cyclone with an international name 'Lekima' will enter the country. However, in case it enters the Philippine Area of Responsibility, it will be given the name 'Vinta.'

On the other hand, Northern Luzon until Sunday will continue having partly cloudy to cloudy skies with passing light rains due to the northeast monsoon or 'amihan.'

Pura said the weather bureau also issued a gale warning for Northern Luzon and eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon, as strong to gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon is expected to affect the areas.

"Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves," the advisory said.
